Dental cleanings for government employees outside the DC area
While going to the doctor may sometimes seem more reasonable than going to the dentist, you shouldn’t neglect your teeth! Furthermore, it is a fact that your teeth impacts your overall health as well, so it’s important you care for your teeth and give them the love and attention they deserve by not only cleaning them properly but by also visiting with the dentist regularly!

As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended that an individual visit with the dentist once every six months to receive a proper cleaning, x-rays and a thorough dental exam. If you are due for x-rays, then x-rays may be taken prior to your dental cleaning to be able to provide an accurate picture of what is taking place in your mouth at the time. This is to ensure that the teeth and your mouth as a whole is as healthy as can be.

Once the cleaning has begun, the dental hygienist will work diligently to remove any plaque or tartar (hardened plaque) from the teeth and also polish them so they can truly shine! Once the dentist comes in for the dental exam, he or she will take a look at the x-rays to see if any dental work may need to be done. If any signs of tooth decay appear alarming, the dentist may recommend a filling or a crown to be added to your personal treatment plan.

While visiting with the dentist is extremely beneficial to your oral health, it is also recommended that you are staying on top of your at-home routine for your oral health! At Costa Family & Cosmetic Dentistry other steps we recommend for maintaining a positive oral health at home are as follows:

Brushing your teeth after each meal or at least twice a day. It’s strongly encouraged to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that includes fluoride, which helps to fight against decay.
Flossing at least once every day. Try flossing before bedtime and help little ones floss, as it can be a difficult task to do alone.
Eating a well-balanced diet. Try to cut back on sugary drinks, sodas, cadies, etc. as these foods can lead to increased tooth decay and you don’t want those!
