Posted .

A toothache can cause a great deal of pain. It can make it difficult for you to complete your everyday tasks and go about your routine. The good news, however, is that there are a number of medications and home remedies that may provide you with relief from your toothache. At Costa Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we recommend the following:

A Salt Water Rinse
Mix warm water and salt and use it to rinse your mouth. This can allow you to sanitize your mouth and prevent infection, reducing the amount of pain you feel. Get into the habit of rinsing your mouth after every meal as well as when you walk and before you go to bed.

Cucumber
Slice a piece of cucumber and hold it ot the affected area. You’ll find that it soothes your pain in no time. It’s no surprise this remedy is also used to treat puffy eyes.

Raw Ginger
Raw ginger is loaded with a number of ingredients that can reduce bacteria in your mouth and stop the pain. You can chew on raw ginger or add it to your food. Fortunately, it tastes great.

Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, an active ingredient that can do wonders for your tooth pain. Capsaicin is an anti-inflammatory and can reduce swelling and ease your tooth pain.

Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers
Ibuprofen and other pain relievers you can easily purchase at a drugstore can help relieve pain for a temporary period of time.
