Toothache Home Remedies – How to Stop the Pain

Posted .

Toothaches can be very painful. The good news, however, is that there are a variety of home remedies that can ease the pain and help you feel better. Here at Costa Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we recommend the following toothache home remedies:

Salt Water Rinse
We suggest a salt water rinse as a first-line treatment. Since salt water is a natural disinfectant, it can loosen any debris and food particles that may be stuck in between your teeth. It can also heal any wounds you may have and minimize inflammation.

Cold Compress
You can purchase a cold compress at any drugstore or grocery store. If your toothache was caused by trauma, applying a cold compress is a good idea. It can constrict the blood vessels, leading to reduced pain.

Peppermint Tea Bags
An effective way to soothe sensitive gums and numb pain is applying cool or warm peppermint tea bags. Peppermint offers a number of benefits and can do wonders for your toothache.

Vanilla Extract
Since vanilla extract features alcohol, it may numb your pain. It also contains antioxidants, which make it the perfect healer. Simply dab a bit of vanilla extract on a cotton ball and apply it to the affected area throughout the day.

Garlic
Garlic has been used for thousand of years to relieve a variety of conditions. Create a paste by crushing a garlic clove and apply it to the affected area. You may find it to be the ideal pain reliever.
